The TPO Network facilitates the dynamic exchange of information, good practices, experiences and collaboration about offering export-oriented services among TPOs. It provides a platform where individual organizations may benefit from the synergies of TPOs working together in the spirit of continual and mutual improvement through online and offline forums.
Trade Promotion organizations (TPOs) provide support to the private and the public sectors and, as such, face very specific challenges: they are required to provide public benefits while also behaving as private sector companies. They are requested to produce very detailed and specific reports of their impact, while having very little direct control over the ultimate outcome they seek: an increase in sustainable exports. The uniqueness of their situation requires an exchange of good practices and practical experiences to improve their operations and enhance their performance. To do this they need standardized systems and processes for gathering, processing and disseminating information on practices that can improve TPO business and management processes. It is the close interaction between TPOs and their network of trade support institutions within and across regions that permits them to identify markets and partners for their clientele as well as for their own activities and benefits. By pooling resources and competencies to deliver services they are enabled to together meet the increasingly specific needs of clients and avoid duplication of their efforts.
The TPO Network World Conference and Awards along with the TSI Benchmarking initiative are two such platforms for this.
The TPO Network links TPOs and networks of TPOs to enrich their knowledge and activities by promoting the exchange of good practices and experiences. The TPO Network is open to all trade support institutions mandated to provide trade related technical support services.
The biennial TPO Network World Conference and Awards has grown steadily in popularity since its inception. It is recognized by the senior representatives of TPOs as the global networking event on their agendas to foster new ideas, future collaborations and positive outcomes of their efforts.
The conference was first established in 1996 with the purpose of providing a forum for TPOs from around the world to come together and discuss issues that are important to their work agenda.
The TPO Network Awards recognize institutional excellence and encourage the sharing of best practices among national export promotion agencies. TPOs participate in the TPO Network Awards in categories defined according to the economic development status of the countries where their national headquarters are located.
